Why Laser Hair Removal Requires Multiple Sessions
One of the first questions we hear at House of Aesthetics is: "How many laser sessions will I actually need?" It is a completely fair question — and the honest answer is that there is no single number that applies to everyone. However, there are well-established ranges, and understanding the biology behind them will help you plan your treatment realistically.
Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin — the pigment in your hair follicles. The laser energy is absorbed by the melanin, converted to heat, and that heat destroys the follicle's ability to produce hair. The critical detail is that this only works on hair follicles that are in the anagen (active growth) phase of the hair cycle. At any given moment, only about 20–30% of your body hair is in this phase. That is why a single session cannot clear everything — you simply cannot treat dormant follicles.
Session Counts by Treatment Area
Based on clinical experience treating over 1,500 patients at our DHA Phase 6 clinic, here are realistic session estimates for common areas:
- Face (upper lip, chin, sideburns): 6–8 sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart. Facial hair tends to be influenced by hormones, which can require a few extra sessions.
- Full Body: 8–10 sessions for comprehensive coverage. See our full body laser pricing starting at PKR 25,000 per session.
- Full Legs: 6–8 sessions. Leg hair is coarser on the lower leg and finer on the thigh, so response can vary by zone.
- Underarms: 5–6 sessions. This area responds quickly due to the coarse, dark hair typical in South Asian patients.
- Bikini / Brazilian: 6–8 sessions. Slightly more due to hormonal influence in the area.
- Back / Chest (men): 8–10 sessions. Larger surface area and often thicker hair.
Factors That Affect Your Session Count
Several personal factors determine where in the range you will land:
1. Skin Tone and Hair Thickness
The classic laser works best on high contrast — dark hair on light skin. For South Asian skin tones (Fitzpatrick III–V), which is the majority of our patients in Lahore, we use our tri-wavelength system that combines diode, Nd:YAG, and alexandrite wavelengths. This allows us to safely treat darker skin while still targeting the follicle effectively. Thick, coarse hair absorbs more energy and is typically easier to treat than fine, vellus hair.
2. Hormonal Factors
Hormonal imbalances — including PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), thyroid issues, or changes during pregnancy — can stimulate new hair growth even after successfully treated follicles. Patients with PCOS often need 2–3 maintenance sessions per year after their initial course. We always recommend a hormonal screening if you notice unusually rapid regrowth between sessions.
3. Treatment Area and Hair Density
Areas with high hair density — like the back or full legs — naturally take more sessions than sparse areas. The spacing between sessions also matters: sessions must be timed to the hair cycle of that specific area, which is why we create a personalised treatment calendar for every patient.
4. Consistency of Appointments
Missing sessions or spacing them too far apart allows previously dormant follicles to complete their cycle and become active again without treatment. Consistency is one of the biggest factors in achieving optimal results within the expected session count.
What to Expect at Each Session
At House of Aesthetics, every laser session follows a consistent protocol designed for safety and comfort:
- Skin assessment: Your clinician checks your skin tone and any recent sun exposure before treatment.
- Shaving: The area is shaved the evening before or morning of your appointment (never waxed — waxing removes the root the laser needs to target).
- Cooling and treatment: Our machine has built-in contact cooling to protect the skin surface while the laser targets the follicle below.
- Post-care: A soothing gel is applied, and you receive written SPF instructions.
Sessions take 15 minutes (underarms) to 90 minutes (full body). You can return to daily activities immediately. You will see gradual shedding of treated hairs over 10–14 days — this is normal and means the treatment worked.
HOA's Tri-Wavelength Advantage for South Asian Skin
Most clinics in Lahore use a single-wavelength diode laser, which can carry a higher risk of hyperpigmentation on deeper skin tones. At House of Aesthetics, our tri-wavelength platform adjusts dynamically to your skin tone and hair characteristics. This means:
- Safer treatment for Fitzpatrick III–V skin (the majority of Pakistani patients)
- Better efficacy on fine or light-coloured hair
- Reduced risk of burns or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
- Consistent results across different body areas in the same session

Final Thought: Think in Journeys, Not Single Sessions
Laser hair removal is an investment in years of smooth, hair-free skin — not a one-time fix. When you factor in the lifetime cost of waxing (see our comparison guide: Laser vs Waxing in Lahore), even 8–10 sessions at PKR 25,000 each for full body is significantly cheaper and far more comfortable than waxing every 3–4 weeks for years. The key is choosing an experienced, medically-led clinic and committing to the full course.
